Masseter Release Massage
Release tight masseter muscles to reduce left-right jaw tension.
3 minDifficulty EasyPopularity 96
How to do it
- 1
Place three fingers in the hollow under your cheekbones.
- 2
With your mouth slightly open, massage in circles for 30 seconds.
- 3
Spend 15 extra seconds on the tighter side.
- 4
Repeat while moving down along the jawline.
Why it works
One-sided chewing or clenching makes one masseter thicker and tighter than the other. Massage releases the tight fascia and lowers overactivity, helping even out left-right volume and tension.
Common mistakes
- Pressing hard enough to bruise — "pleasantly firm" is enough.
- Massaging with teeth clenched — keep the mouth slightly open so the muscle can relax.
- Only massaging the tight side — do both sides and just add extra time on the tighter one.
Signs you're doing it right
Your jaw should feel lighter afterward, and your mouth should open more smoothly than before.
Cautions
- · Reduce pressure if it hurts.
- · Consult a specialist first if you have a TMJ disorder.
